Dental implants

In the near future (six months – 12 months time), I require some dental work, removal of an old bridge then dental implants. My dentist is only happy to carry our this work if given written permission to do so by my cardiologist. Can anyone let me know if they have ever had such a request. Also, any information on managing low INR pre dental work & managing the risk of infection would be useful. Thanks Kevin

I've had teeth out, new crowns and veneers put in, in the 3 years since I've had my valve, the only consideration has been ensuring the INR level is at 3.0 or below.

The real debate comes in the form of the use of antibiotics  - very frustrating -  the dentist says no while the cardiologist says yes! I had to stop the last procedure and ring the surgeon for clarification - yes was the answer.

So my executive decision is yes for everything except for a scale & polish.

Hope this helps.

Mark,

Thanks for this. Also, I have found this article from the Lancet which supports your response.

All the best

Kevin

Well my dentist and cardiologist are happy that I do not take antibiotics.  I wish there was a genuinely yes and no answer!

I hate antibiotics as it upsets my INR, so I like the answer - but I wish I was 100% confident in the decision!

Thanks for the response James. I have now been referred to another dentist for a second opinion, nothing straight forward here in France! cheers Kevin
