Hi Saz

OK. Time to stop looking out the window and wishing you had a 'normal' life! You do! And getting your new valve will make it exactly that! The scar heals - i have virtually only a faint line down my chest now and anyway its always a badge of honour with any of us - I often go to the beach and nobody cares or notices... as to bleeding..no...it has not really affected me - I dont ski blacks any more..yes i bruise a bit easier and bleed a little bit more if i cut myself but taking warfarin does NOT turn you into a hemaphiliac....Getting a mechanical valve will last you the rest of your life - and then some..unlike bio valves mechanical valves have a lifespan of 100 years or so..thats why the are so popular! OK - Be thinking of you next week with your op..dont forget to get back online to the group asap after the op so we can help support you post op...

all the best

Hi Saz..

Thanks for your reply. Sorry have been busy and did not see it this week. Hang in there - I was a perfectly fit 53 year old guy - no history of heart disease, diabetics, blood pressure etc and boom! - A massive type A Aortic Dissection - out of the blue..but you do get over fate dishing out a bad hand and you dust off your bottom and and get back on track with your life! Having an artificial heart valve is not a big deal - Im 7 years and going strong now! Warfarin is NOT an issue - like anything you do learn to live with it and it rarely impacts on my life now! Don't worry - you will be fine..

You take care..

cheers
