Today is the date of my 38 years of having a MHV. Wow ! I can remember so many things ,first time ever admitted to a hospital. I remember a shot which put me in a frozen state . Then on down the hall to surgery area- Oh how I wanted to say something -but I couldn't move or talk . I wonder if they still do this ?? I could hear everyone else Dr. etc chatting , I could see everything , large bright light over me . The evening before surgery I was out in the waiting room there was 4 of us…

Hi to all
I'm not sure if this is the best place for me to give a brief recent medical history of what brought me to this point, but I'll write it here and if a better place exist somebody can let me know.
I'm a 40 year working mother who over the last 5 years has been feeling like she is the worlds most unfit woman. I have had increasing symptoms of breathlessness and exhaustion, however I would have explained it all away as not getting enough exercise!
About 12 weeks…

Hello to All and a Thank You for the welcome to the MHV forum from Graeme. This is my first writing . I have been all over this site ~~~reading blogs , video surgery's , ~~members list. Couldn't stop long enough to check in !
I am glad to have found this site ~~~"nice" as there was nothing ~~no computers or friends with same condition to talk with when i had a mitral valve replaced in 1974. That will be 38 years ago in Feb. 2012.
I am doing great , have no…

Hi All, im a 31yo male living in Australia for the last 29 years and recently got myself the latest fashion craze, the MHV and thought id share a little.
so my story goes like this, born with a congenital heart defect i had my first surgery at 11weeks old, this kept me in good health untill i was 19yo when i started to show signs of needing another surgery due to severe arotic regurgitation. so in 2000 i had my aortic valve replaced with a pig valve ( i had actually gone down to the…

Hello everyone,
had a bit of a downer this week as i was told i needed a letter from my dentist prior to my heart valve op, so went and saw my dentist who looked concerned about writing a letter to my cardiologist, but he did it and he said i needed a couple of teeth that were decaying dealt with and that i had pockets and sub gingiva calcus on my back teeth !!!! whatever that is so i think this will put my op date off till i get this sorted, i was wondering if anyone else has…

Hi folks. I am to have an op on Friday 06 January to replace my bicusp heart valve with a mechanical one and to have part of my dilated aorta replace with some plastic tube.
The only thing I really worry about is the Warfarin I'll have to take for the rest of my life (until a suitable replacement is found). After all the stories of woe on here about Warfarin, it has not made me feel any better about it.
Anyone not had problems with it?

Hi everyone,
just found this site and think its great, I am awaiting an aortic valve replacement being diagnosed last november came as a big shock and was getting quite stressed and worried about what lay ahead, but this site has meant i was able to read about others in the same boat as me, what they went through and how they are progressing is just great and has helped calm me down, I hope to get a date through in the next two weeks for my Op, i think there will be ups and downs in…

I can use (and will be extremely grateful for) all the support and info you wish to offer.
One of this days I am going to write a proper introduction with more details, concerns and question.
For now i am just really happy to be accepted as a member.
Thank you.
Wish you all a very happy and very lucky New Year.
Hello,
My name is Neil and I'm 43 years old. I was told back in June that I have a bicuspic aortic valve ..so I have severe aortic stenosis...I am very worried. I am physically fit and enjoy cycling, mountain walking and sea kayaking passionately..and this has come as a massive blow and don't mind admitting that I have bad days dealing with it..cry like baby. The whole process has seemed like ages to get to a point where I have only just been put on a waiting list for a valve…

New to the site and pleased to have found it as it has helped me to understand better how others have felt. I am now 14 weeks post op having had a aortic valve replaced and a mitral valve repaired. So far it has been a bit of a roller coaster with a post op errthymia that is now under control and an INR level that has not yet settled down yet. But I am back to work and pretty much as active as pre op. Hopefully my experiences may be of benefit to others.

Hi everyone.
I am not sure what I am doing at the moment as I thought I had already posted on this site' twice' but I cant seem to find where the posts are. I am a bit of a computer biff but hopefully this will now post correctly. I had an AD and Aortic Valve replacement 9 weeks ago and am recovering well. I struggle to get used to the loud tick from the valve but it is early days yet. I find the feeling of heavy butterfly's in my stomach when sitting down a bit disconcerting but I am…

Hello all
My name is Sue and yesterday was my sixth 'birthday' when I had my mitral and aortic valves replaced with nice ATS valves. I suppose though I am really 63.
There was nothing wrong with my heart until I had lithotripsy to break up some kidney stones, during one of the sessions the machine had been recalibrated and was much stronger than the other sessions that I had, twelve days later I became unwell. I didn't realise it at the time but it was the…
