Artificial Heart Valve Surgery & Living with Warfarin: UK Info Support Group
Hi folks. I am to have an op on Friday 06 January to replace my bicusp heart valve with a mechanical one and to have part of my dilated aorta replace with some plastic tube.
The only thing I really worry about is the Warfarin I'll have to take for the rest of my life (until a suitable replacement is found). After all the stories of woe on here about Warfarin, it has not made me feel any better about it.
Anyone not had problems with it?

Yes I seem to be OK with it now. Two things bother me now though - 1) I feel light headed and dizzy most mornings for a couple of hours and 2) It's just over 5 weeks since my operation and the pain in my breast bone does not seem much better!
Comment by Elaine Howlin on February 12, 2012 at 15:40 Hi Allan
I am on warfarin and to be honest I have never really found it that much of an issue. Yes it takes a while to 'kick in' initially but once you get within your target range it usually isn't a problem. As you become used to living with it you can usually work out why if you have a high/low reading. Don't worry about it as it soon becomes a minor detail.
