Cardiac Surgeon

Got my appointment through yesterday to see the Cardiac Surgeon, a specialist in Mitral Valve Surgery at Leeds General Infirmary on August 7th.

Also saw my Cardiologist at Pinderfields, Wakefield to check I was OK after the Angiogram.  I will be discharged back to the Cardiologist at Pinderfields after Surgery and he has made me an appointment for 6 months by which time I will have had surgery.

Seems to be gathering momentum quite quickly. Funny these days  how life seems to be…

Just wanted to share my good news - I start back at work this Monday 9wks post Aortic valve replacement. I'm very happy about this, well probably more happy that I'm well enough to consider returning to work than the act of returning to work :) It will be a phased return, mornings only Mon,Wed & Fri for a few weeks then see how I go.

I would like to thank you all for your support over the past few months - I have found this site i.e. the people on it so…

Pre Operation preperation

I am due to have a St Jude’s Aortic valve fitted on August 3rd 2012 – my question is this - although reasonably fit, not overweight, should I try and get a little fitter – loose a couple of kilos. In addition, I do enjoy a couple or three glasses of wine of an evening, should I cut this out all together.

Been called in again. I'll be travelling down this evening for potential op tomorrow. Petrified as always but really hoping that it's not cancelled again as I just want to get over this hurdle now, get it out the way and concentrate on recovery.

Thanks for everyones advice and hopefully I'll be back soon with stories of the op.

Best wishes to everyone,

Replacement aortic valve and ascending thoracic aorta aneurysm

Hi everybody.    Next July I will have replacement aortic valve surgery for mechanical one.  Since March my surgery was postponed 3 times for things about my health like a flu and so on.  But, it will be next July.  But, now I had a Ct Scan last week and I have also an ascending thoracic aorta aneurysm.  That is new for me.  The surgery will still be next July.  If someone had that experience of have to replace the aortic valve and have an aneurysm too that could tell me about it.  I will…

Thanks for the welcome Graeme. I am a 60 year old retired NHS Physiotherapist.  My sister (65 years) died earlier this year and the post mortem report showed that she had "markedly abnormal mitral valve leaflets and enlarged heart" which resulted in her death.  I recalled a time many years ago when a GP advised me that I had a heart murmur.  As I was young and fit I forgot about it.  Decided to see my GP after my sister's death.  He picked up the heart murmur and referred me urgently to the…

5th time lucky??

Yep, you've guessed it..cancelled.

They wanted me to go back the next day early for a op the following day..I refused and said that I would come in on the evening (as I have been admitted now..and end up just sitting there getting stressed) just as well as that one was cancelled too!

Tried my best to just switch off this weekend..just waiting for that call now.

Whats the 'post op sneeze!?'

Hope everyone is well. Speak soon,
